Reggae and Dancehall music has always been celebrated in various African countries. The genre has been present on the continent but has never taken the main stage. To some extent the trend of Africans singing in patois has constantly raised eyebrows. This was mainly due to the question of authenticity and whether these artists are imitating an unfamiliar culture. Nonetheless, these artists have started to infuse African sound and rhythms with dancehall and created a new hybrid sound that is indisputably good. Recently, Dancehall artist by the name Shata Wale (Bandana) was awarded artist of the year at the Ghana music awards which represented an acceptance of the genre in the country. Whatever the opinions of people might be, these artists are creating music and building careers out of it.
